The Westpoint mid week crits are a staple of local racing round Exeter. The short circuit incorporates a slight hill, four corners and a mini round about (don’t worry- you just go straight over). At 800 metres there is just enough recovery on each lap so that you, or you opponents, can give it some beans up the bump each lap. This makes for a more interesting race than some of the flat circuits we have in the region, but not so hard as to put anyone off. There is the Strava segment of one lap if you want to check it out here.
Westpoint Arena (EX5 1DJ) is really easy to get to, just 5 mins from the M5. To help with travel, and due to the late addition to the series, the organisers have offered to put the race start back to 19:15. This is to encourage more entries and give people who have to travel a bit more time to get there, so please do try and support it. They will also put up a prize fund and give us a full 40 mins of racing, since it is a Kalas SWWRS event so please make sure you stick about at the end for the prize presentations (it should be immediately after the race assuming there are no complications).
The circuit was recently used for the BC Women’s Stage race, so should be familiar to most of you. This was a fab event put on with the aim to encourage more women to try racing. If you were there why not give this series event a go too!
Spectating at Westpoint is great too, with good visibility round the whole circuit so why not bring the fan club to cheer you on.
